Vehicle movement in and around the car parking area controlled by the Waikanae Boating Club

Members are advised that common sense applies when they are driving in the car park and driveways leading to the club.

If another vehicle has entered onto the driveway, traffic entering from the opposite direction are obliged to give way.

This is especially relevant when a vehicle is towing a boat as it can be very difficult to back up. Drivers should always check first before entering the driveway and be prepared to give way.

Normally down hill traffic should give way to uphill traffic.

The club has now removed the bollards on the northern boundary to allow traffic to exit through the Waimea car park.

Remember Common sense applies using courtesy and good manners

Waikanae Boating Club shared Kapiti Island Nature Tours's post.
Waikanae Boating Club

We had some unexpected emergency action on the island over the weekend with a chimney fire in our next door neighbour's whare. Big thanks to Manaaki & Spratty who got the blaze under control quickly, and the manuhiri who helped to roll out firehoses and water pumps.

Massive thanks as well to the Paraparaumu and Waikanae Volunteer Coastguard & the Fire Brigade teams who responded to the 111 call & came across to help. We're lucky to have such dedicated volunteers and professionals in the region. If you can, make a donation to your local volunteer emergency response team - they do us all a huge service.

As much as we hope to never need to put our emergency response plans into action, we're glad we had the gear to get it under control before the professionals arrived.
