Vehicle movement in and around the car parking area controlled by the Waikanae Boating Club

Members are advised that common sense applies when they are driving in the car park and driveways leading to the club.

If another vehicle has entered onto the driveway, traffic entering from the opposite direction are obliged to give way.

This is especially relevant when a vehicle is towing a boat as it can be very difficult to back up. Drivers should always check first before entering the driveway and be prepared to give way.

Normally down hill traffic should give way to uphill traffic.

The club has now removed the bollards on the northern boundary to allow traffic to exit through the Waimea car park.

Remember Common sense applies using courtesy and good manners

“Smoking on the Outside Deck of the Waikanae Boating Club”

In the latter part of March 2018 we received notification from the Wellington Regional Public Health Board informing us that the deck in its current configuration does not comply with the “Open Space Criteria” and that smoking was to cease in this area. Forthwith we notified Members that the area was to become a No Smoking zone and that the any participation in smoking or vapour was to take place in the area directly outside the deck.
As time has passed we have sought legal and professional advice which conclusively confirms that the deck does not comply with the Open Space Criteria as such.
At our Committee meeting on Tuesday 1st May 2018 your committee with the legal and professional advice they had received along with the importance of protecting the liquor license moved that the Deck area would continue as a
“No Smoking Zone ” forthwith.
We want to thank those members who are smokers for complying with the request that the Deck is Smoke Free and that all Smoking is to take part on the sealed section directly opposite the deck.
If you have any suggestions on an alternative we would appreciate your input in order to move forward.

Bob Tait
Commodore on behalf of the Committee.
